Avon Calling...

Whitney English Calling Cards

Well, maybe not Avon.  But we would be willing to do almost anything (even sell Avon door-to-door) to use our calling cards.  Fortunately for us, though, it's easy to find ways to use them.  They can be used as:

  • business cards, adding color and personality to the traditionally plain card (a great gift for college grads heading out to the job market)
  • social networking cards, for moments when life prevents long conversations or even the jotting down of contact information
  • gift tags, but much prettier and more personal than the stickers you can buy at superstores
  • brief "thank you" notes, especially for those with neat and tidy handwriting
  • unique inserts for luggage tags, making your bags that much easier to identify
  • allergen cards, to clearly communicate dietary needs with restaurant staff, friends or even family
  • parent cards, to leave contact information with sitters, daycare teachers and schools or exchange numbers with other parents for playdates
  • P.S. cards, holding that extra information that just didn't fit on the main card or invitation
The list goes on and on, really.  Their small size makes them easy to tote and store, but they're big enough to carry your messages.  From sassy to professional, classic to contemporary, we have patterns to suit every personality and need.  We also offer envelopes for them, so your message and information can be hidden from unintended readers.  Calling cards have been making a comeback, a trend recently noted by both Real Simple (May 2009 issue, page 64) and Time Magazine (July 2008).  Speaking of Real Simple, our Tahiti Pink Calling Card made it into their calling card spread, thanks to one of our vendors.

How can you resist exchanging information on such colorful cards?  Or brightening someone's day with a cheery, brief note?  Or sending a gift with a tag as unique and special as the recipient?  We certainly can't... we love them too much! Check out our calling cards today!

A Baby Shower for Rebecca

A couple of weeks ago, we had a baby shower for Rebecca! Rebecca and her husband are currently in the process of adopting from Ethiopia. It's such an exciting time for them; we couldn't wait to help her celebrate her new baby boy's upcoming arrival. The invitation was our Nali Giraffe Blue.

The shower started at 10 a.m. Personally, I'm not a fan of mid-day showers. Showers that start at 2:00 in the afternoon tend to eat up the rest of the day, and make you not hungry for dinner. Since it was a morning shower, we went with a brunch menu: little quiches, fruit and coffee cake with coffee, punch, and iced tea. (If you're in the South, NEVER forget the iced tea at a shower!) Instead of cake, we opted for cupcakes. Chelsea ordered several flavors for the local cupcake lady.

Yum, baby shower cupcakes! And a quick shot of the happy and beautiful mom-to-be, Rebecca!

It was plenty of food for a morning shower!

One of my favorite touches was the the party favors. We ordered cookies from The Cookie Princess. To coordinate with the giraffe print invitation, we had the Cookie Princess make giraffe-shaped cookies, iced in white and dotted with light blue polka dots. They came tied in these cello bags with brown ribbon--the perfect baby shower party favor!

Classic Pink

Do you remember, about six years ago, when pink was the new pink? Darling, bubble gum pink was everywhere. My favorite cable knit sweater of all time was purchased in the height of the pink craze, and now has been worn to a raw-elbow state. How long did that phase last? About three years? Maybe longer, if you consider that there will always be a few people hanging on to pink with die-hard ferocity.

If we're honest with ourselves, pink is a classic. It stands for breast cancer and baby girls, and reminds us of cupcakes with sprinkles and rose gardens. While other colors wax and wane, pink will be with us for the long haul.

Above, some of our Whitney English favorites: the Fruit on Ecru was inspired by my own wedding; pink leopard charms us all and makes a sweet, but feisty statement; the Mod Floral Berry was inpsired by vintage fabric, but I love this color combination; preppy stripes take on new life in a pink, green and brown color scheme.

Trend Watch: Blue, Green and Brown

blue brown green stationery invitations

One of our favorite Whitney English color combinations is blue, green and brown. While brown seems to be the neutral of choice these days, it's fun to liven it up in unexpected ways. Brown pairs in unique fashion with the blues in the florals, shown above. On the far left is our Bella Blue and in the middle, a blue version of our Mikasa Floral. Transitioning into a more masculine feel, brown becomes crisply modern in a cool-toned chevron pattern. And we love our animal prints: the Brown Giraffe is one of our most popular items, and our Peacock feathers have a whimsical, contemporary twist. Each of these designs can be purchased in the form of an invitation or announcement, with coordinating note card.
