Katie's Vintage Summer Wedding

I wanted to share some photos from Katie's wedding. You'll have to forgive the picture quality--I'm still learning things about the "fancy camera"!

Upon entering the reception hall, we were met with this darling set up of vintage lawn chairs under carnival lights. Katie set the perfect mood for a hot summer night, and it was fun to be indoors for a cool reception! The hanging lanterns remind me of the Martha Stewart "poofs". The fabric hanging in the background is what the photographer used as a backdrop to photograph each guest.

For a menu, Katie and Tyler served the most delicious spread of cheese, fruit and wine. It made for a scrumptious, light dinner. In addition to wine, they served iced tea and lemonade. Note the use of the galvanized tin to serve ice. So casual-chic!

Katie chose to have assorted cakes instead of one large wedding cake. The flavors were delicious, and there were probably 20 options--orange creme cake, chocolate covered strawberry cake, classic vanilla cake with chocolate icing, and the perfect strawberry cake!

pick a posie bag

Since Katie's parents are florists, greenery and flora abounded. At each table she placed these little cellophane bags that read, "Pick a posy from your table." Isn't that a darling idea? There were gorgeous orchid centerpieces--I just wanted to take home one of those!

sneakers and high heels

Here is a shot of Katie and Tyler during their first dance. The shot describes them perfectly--sneakers for him, vintage heels for her.

note cards for reserved tables

Katie used Whitney English note cards printed with "Reserved" as place holders on the family tables. She created table runners out of vintage table cloths.

I love this shot of Jessica, above. Jessica was part of the house party--notice the magnolia in her hair. Katie had all her bridesmaids and house party wear a magnolia on the side of their head, which was another precious Southern vintage touch. She used assorted vases, including the mason jars above, to hold the thousands of flowers that filled the room. Note the vintage wicker handbag (so Kate Spade, don't you think?). It was a gift to me from Sara Hicks Malone, and matched the theme of the evening and my Lilly sundress perfectly!

flower wreath at reception

Hanging in the center of the hall was this huge wisteria and curly willow wreath, lavishly adorned with flowers. At the end of the reception, all the guests gathered below it, and the photographer used a lift to take a picture of everyone. You can see the carnival lights in the backgrounad again.

Here are Katie and Tyler cutting the cakes!

All in all, it was a precious, charming wedding that reflected the tastes of the bride and groom so well. The flowers were lush, the meal was delightful, and the summer vintage theme was a refreshing twist on a traditional summer wedding.

The Girls from Whitney English

at katies wedding reception
It has been a summer full of weddings for David and me, but it's been so much fun. I've taken pictures at most of them, so I'll try to post some of them later on! Katie's wedding was so much fun. Katie had a precious wedding with a retro twist--her parents are florists and she sells vintage clothing!

Katie is one of those darling people who has fabulous ideas, a huge heart, a darling smile and one of the most willing attitudes I've ever seen. She jumps in wherever she is needed around the office, and so we all jumped in to attend her wedding. I wanted to share this fun group photo.

We Noted: Style Me Pretty

We love blogs. Design blogs, fashion blogs, craft and scrapbook blogs, business blogs. They suck us in and fascinate us and resolve the issue of boredom--there is an unlimited supply! We'll be featuring some of our favorites in the next week under the category "blogs" in the left column.

And now, for our first Blog of Note (drumroll, please): Style Me Pretty!

I met Abby several years ago when she emailed me to ask me about exhibiting at the National Stationery Show. She was just starting Abby Jean Press and I was only a year into my NSS exhibiting experience. We chatted, and actually met face to face in New  York several months later. I thought she was amazing, and then Style Me Pretty came along and made her even more amazing--celebrity blogger, perhaps?

I think Abby single-handedly invented the idea of wedding inspiration boards, and I'm so glad she did! Having just finished planning my own wedding, I can't even begin to explain what a lifesaver they were! Need pink wedding ideas? Brown wedding ideas? Pink AND brown wedding ideas? Abby has them!

Retailers: Many times, a bride won't know where to start her wedding planning, and she'll end up at a stationery store, ordering her invitations, and need some advice. Suggest Style Me Pretty as an idea resource for your bride, and she'll end up coming back to your store for more advice and stationery!

It had to be Pink

pink wedding roses
When you subscribe to the theory, "too much is never enough", it can be hard to decide on certain favorites. As a designer, it makes editing a challenging task.

Over the years, my favorite color has vacillated. During the high school years of teenage agnst, I was a big dark green fan. Post college, I've gone through a heavy aqua phase, painting almost any room a shade of that graceful French green-blue. And I've always been partial to muted colors; I love the washed-out yellow shades of vintage textiles (in decorating, they can be very forgiving.)

But I always come back to pink. I always buy pink toothbrushes, pink workout clothes, pink lipstick, and pink cable knit sweaters. (Oh, I'm a sucker for pink cable knit).

So when it came time to choose colors for our wedding, I looked at other options, but I just couldn't commit. The white roses were too plain, the red ones too harsh, the blue hydrangeas were just too casual. I had to have giant pink garden roses, peonies.

Above, pictures from The Knot, have acted as a starting inspiration point.
